In Russia, doughnuts and pastries have "slimmed down": shrinkflation has reached desserts.

Komsomolskaya Pravda reports, citing a study by NTech, that in the second quarter of 2025 the average package sizes of food products fell by 3% compared with the same period last year. While shrinkflation nearly subsided in 2024, the trend has picked up again since the end of last year. According to analysts, pastries have slimmed down the most — by an average of 11%. For example, popular donuts in stores have decreased over the year from 80 to 70 grams, and some — to as little as 62 grams. Even the "Muravynik" pastries from a well-known brand have lost weight, from 420 to 340 grams. Other products are shrinking as well: smoked fish, ready meals, soft drinks and chocolate. Head of Analytics Leonid Ardalionov explained that this trend is linked to a slowdown in the growth of the consumer market: "When the market is growing, there is no need to manipulate packaging sizes. But since the end of 2024, when growth rates slowed, manufacturers have again begun to reduce volumes." Interestingly, in some categories the opposite dynamic is being observed — cookies, chips and pet food are being sold in larger packages. According to the expert, this is because larger sizes are more economical and have a longer shelf life.
