A woman from Kirov had more than 65,000 rubles stolen through a "viral photo."
According to the regional office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a woman received a message on one of the messaging apps from a stranger who had attached what purported to be an image to the chat. However, the file would not open, and shortly thereafter money began to be debited from her bank card.
It turned out that the attackers had sent malicious software that allowed them to remotely control the victim's smartphone. Using it, the criminals accessed the banking app and withdrew savings totaling 65,000 rubles. A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident, and the identities of the suspects are being established.
The police remind people: do not open files or links from unknown users, even if they look harmless. Android smartphone owners are advised to enable the setting that blocks installation of apps from unknown sources.
