Schoolchildren were warned about scammers on dating services.

In the Kirov region, cases of fraud targeting schoolchildren via messaging apps and dating services have become more frequent. The scheme works as follows: new contacts are asked to send geolocation data supposedly for a future meeting.

After sending the coordinates, a video message arrives on the teenager’s phone in which a person in the uniform of a Ukrainian serviceman threatens a missile strike on the provided coordinates. The scammers then call, claiming to be from Russian security services, asserting that sending the geolocation constitutes assistance in preparing a terrorist attack, and demand that the child record videos of their parents’ banking apps, search the home for valuables, and hand them over to a courier.

The Interior Ministry notes that this is a classic scheme used by foreign call centers. Law enforcement urges schoolchildren and their parents to be vigilant: do not follow strangers’ instructions, block suspicious contacts, and warn friends about the danger. Law enforcement officers do not make threats over the phone and do not demand the transfer of valuables or confidential data.

"Online acquaintances can be unsafe. Behind the mask of a new friend may hide a perpetrator involved in a scheme run by foreign scammers," the agency emphasizes.
