A woman from Orichi lost 4.7 million to fraudsters.
In Orichi, a 71-year-old pensioner became the victim of telephone scammers. She lost 4.78 million rubles.
It all began with a call from a stranger who introduced himself as a delivery service courier. The man informed her about a parcel and asked her to read out the code from an SMS message.
After that the elderly woman received a notification about a login to her personal account on the Gosuslugi portal and called back the number provided in the message. She was then contacted by a “data protection specialist,” an “employee of Rosfinmonitoring,” and an “FSB investigator.” The latter assured the pensioner that a power of attorney had been issued in her name and that criminals were trying to withdraw money.
At the interlocutor’s instruction the woman withdrew all her savings and transferred them to a “protected account of the Central Bank.” While she was at the bank, the scammers asked her not to turn off her phone, claiming they had connected to her camera and were watching her.
A few days later the pensioner realized she had been deceived and went to the police. A criminal case was opened on suspicion of fraud on a particularly large scale.
