Eleven flares were recorded on the Sun, two of which were strong. This was reported by interfax.ru, citing the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Scientists noted that one of the flares was the second most powerful in the past four months. A sharp increase in solar activity began on Tuesday evening. According to specialists' calculations, the first plasma ejections will reach Earth as early as Thursday, causing a mild geomagnetic response; the main impact is expected from Friday through Sunday, when bright polar auroras may appear.
