Russia will inspect 51 airlines due to an increase in the number of aviation incidents.

As Izvestia reports, a directive to this effect is being prepared for Rostransnadzor. The reason given is an increase in the number of aviation incidents and disasters, including the tragedy involving an Angara An-24 aircraft that occurred on July 24.

In a letter from Rostransnadzor’s deputy head Vladimir Fonaryov to Deputy Minister of Transport Vladimir Poteshkin, it is noted that the number of aviation incidents in 2024 doubled — from 8 to 17 — and the number of fatalities increased more than threefold — from 12 to 37.

According to the agency, since the beginning of 2025 there have already been four aviation incidents, including two disasters that claimed 53 lives. Rostransnadzor links the rise in incidents to violations of aviation legislation committed by airlines. The list of carriers to be inspected includes, in particular, Azimuth, Alrosa, Aurora, Izhavia, IrAero, Angara, KrasAvia, Polar Airlines, RusLine, Severstal, Kamchatka Air Enterprise and other regional operators.
