The RKF explained whether a dog can be an introvert.
"Dogs have the right to be different, just like people. Even in the same litter, puppies can be born with completely opposite temperaments. That's good news — everyone can choose a pet that suits them," said RKF president Vladimir Golubev.
According to the federation, a dog's behavior depends on many factors — breed, individual temperament and socialization experience. For example, Jack Russell Terriers are usually active and energetic, while pugs are more often calm and phlegmatic.
The RKF emphasized that even with proper socialization, a pet is not obliged to enjoy noisy gatherings or interacting with other dogs. If an animal does not show aggression but prefers solitude, that is within the range of normal. However, at signs of fear, anxiety or aggressive behavior, it is worth consulting a canine behaviorist.
Experts remind that it is important to take breed characteristics into account: active dogs require more exercise, whereas calmer pets are suited to a more sedate lifestyle.
The RKF urges owners to accept their pets as they are and not force them to be more sociable if that contradicts their nature.
