The public page "Amateur Astronomy in Kirov" reported that this week residents of the region will be able to see the Draconids meteor shower. This phenomenon is associated with the Earth passing through the debris trail of comet Giacobini-Zinner.
The Draconids are visible from October 6 to 10, with the greatest activity expected on the evening of October 8, at around 18:07 Moscow time. The shower can be observed all night because the constellation Draco, from which the meteors "emerge," does not set below the horizon. This time amateur astronomers predict up to 30–40 meteors per hour, although under favorable conditions their number can reach 100–150.
This year the conditions for observation are not the best — the full Moon will illuminate the sky and hide some of the meteors. However, in clear weather and away from city lights you will be able to spot dozens of bright trails. A telescope is not required for observing.
