A woman from Kirov lost 2.5 million to phone scammers.
A woman from Kirov became the latest victim of telephone scammers. She lost 2.51 million rubles. This was reported by the regional office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
It all began when a man who introduced himself as a delivery service employee called the Kirov resident and told her about a parcel from Italy. Then, under the pretext of rerouting the delivery he asked for the code from an SMS. After she provided the digits, the woman received a message that her account on the Gosuslugi state services website had been hacked.
Then people who claimed to be employees of Rosfinmonitoring and the FSB contacted her. They convinced the woman that a loan and a lien on a car had already been issued in her name, and that all her money could allegedly be sent to Ukraine. The victim was threatened with criminal liability.
Under pressure from the strangers, the woman sold her car to “remove it from the lien” and took out a loan to “annul” the perpetrators’ actions. She transferred all the funds she received to the bank details provided. When the fraudsters demanded another transfer, the woman from Kirov realized she had been deceived.
A criminal case has been opened on fraud. The perpetrators are currently being sought.
