A pensioner was fined for spending someone else's money.

A court in Kirov found a 67-year-old local resident guilty of an offense under paragraph “g” of part 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft from a bank account). According to the Kirov Region prosecutor’s office, the investigation and the court established that on January 7, 2024 the man found a bank card on the street and decided to use the money on it for personal purposes.

The pensioner paid for goods with someone else’s card, including alcohol purchased at two grocery stores in Kirov, using the contactless payment function. As a result, about 1,000 rubles were debited from the victim’s card.

After considering the case, the court found the pensioner guilty and imposed a fine of 100,000 rubles. “Taking into account the combination of mitigating circumstances, full reimbursement of the material damage caused, and information about the individual, the court deemed it possible to change the category of the committed offense from a serious crime to one of moderate gravity, and released the pensioner from serving the sentence in view of reconciliation between the parties,” the Kirov Region prosecutor’s office reported.
