A geomagnetic storm has been ongoing for more than 50 hours: the solar wind speed is approaching extreme levels.
The storm remains in the G1–G3 range, corresponding to a moderate level with occasional strong peaks. The main cause of the unstable conditions is the high solar wind speed, which is holding at the threshold of extremely high values — 700–800 km/s, with peaks up to 900 km/s. For comparison: normal values are 300–450 km/s. This dynamic is linked both to heightened solar flare activity and to the influence of a large coronal hole whose zone of influence Earth entered last night. On the positive side, scientists note that the flares have so far not exceeded M-class, which are significantly less powerful than the strongest X-class flares. According to experts, the magnetosphere has stabilized but remains in a state of continuous storm. Visible signs of improvement may appear in 1–2 days if no new strong solar flares occur.
