The Central Bank approved a new design for the 1,000‑ruble banknote.
“The board of directors approved the conceptual design of the redesigned banknote, and now artists from the Bank of Russia and Goznak are working on the sketch design,” she said at a meeting of the advisory council on banknotes, RIA Novosti reports.
A nationwide vote on symbols for the new note ended in December 2024. The winner was the ship "Meteor"; however, as Nabiullina clarified, the banknote may feature several symbols at once — the final decision will be made by the artists.
According to her, citizens' wishes were taken into account during development: “We are working very hard to make the banknote 'eye‑opening' and pleasant to hold.”
The release of the redesigned note was suspended in 2023 after a scandal over an image of the Kazan Kremlin without a cross. That decision sparked heated debate, and the Central Bank held a public vote to avoid similar situations in the future.
