Banks were required to add a section for victims of fraud to their apps.

      From October 1, 2025, the country’s largest banks will be required to update their mobile apps: they will include new functionality for citizens who have been victims of fraud. This requirement is stipulated by a Bank of Russia regulation.

      Now clients will be able to remotely submit a claim disputing a transaction directly through the app, without having to rush to a bank branch. Previously, under the law, this had to be done within 24 hours of the theft of funds, most often in person at a branch.

      In addition, banks will be required to prepare and provide victims with an electronic statement about the fraudulent transaction. It will contain all the information needed to file a police report: transfer details, information about the recipient of the funds, and the method by which the transaction was carried out.

      The new rules, the Bank of Russia’s press service notes, will make the procedure for protecting citizens’ rights more convenient and faster, and therefore increase the chances of recovering stolen funds.
