A landscape design contest was held in the correctional facilities of the Kirov Region. Under the guidance of colony staff, inmates spent several months improving the grounds: they grew seedlings, developed flowerbed designs and put them into practice.

According to the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Kirov Region, preparations began in the spring. In the end, more than a hundred people joined the competition. Flowers were planted not only in central areas but also in the yards of the units where the inmates spend their free time. Marigolds, petunias, asters, irises, daylilies and other plants bloomed in the flowerbeds, chosen to maintain their decorative appeal throughout the summer and autumn.

According to the competition results, IK-33 in Kotel'nich won the "Best flowerbed design and variety of flowers" category. IK-33 also took first place in the "Best landscape architecture" category. The prize-winners will be awarded certificates.

The organizers say the main result of the competition is not only the diplomas but also that the colony grounds have become more pleasant and brighter.
