In Russia, the procedure for revoking driver's licences on medical grounds will change.
Key changes to the system:
Medical institutions will directly transmit data to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD);
Information about diagnoses will not be disclosed — only the presence of contraindications will be indicated;
The procedure will become automatic and prompt.
Previously drivers with medical contraindications could continue to drive until their license expired, which could be up to 10 years. The new system closes this legal loophole.
Special attention is paid to cases of mental illness and other disorders that pose a danger to road users. The integration of medical and police databases will allow timely identification of citizens who are prohibited from driving, reports the portal amic.ru.
The introduction of an automated license revocation system is an important step in improving road safety. However, questions arise about the protection of personal data and the quality of medical diagnosis, since an error in diagnosis could lead to an unjustified restriction of citizens' rights.
