A quarter of a ton of waste per person: how much garbage Kirov residents generated in a year

In the Kirov Region in 2024, an average of 265.7 kg of household waste was generated per resident, which is below the national average (325 kg). By comparison, Magadan Oblast was the leader in waste per person (650.8 kg per year), while the lowest volumes were recorded in Buryatia (151.2 kg). At the same time, the largest "producers" of waste nationwide remain Moscow and the Moscow Region — they account for 20.3% of all waste. These figures are provided by a FinExpertiza study based on statistics from Rosprirodnadzor. Experts note that the differences between regions are due not only to consumption levels but also to infrastructure characteristics, the population's environmental habits, and waste accounting. In rural regions, for example, some household waste is disposed of by residents themselves — burned or composted.
