In Kirov Oblast, the first snowfalls may occur by the end of September.

According to amateur meteorologists, the CFS model run has for some time been forecasting snowfalls in the cyclone zone over the region for the period from September 27 to 29.

“Usually we do not pay much attention to such long-range scenarios, but at the same time ensemble forecasts point to cooling, so the prospect of the first snow looks realistic,” the page’s authors note.

Another post confirms the imminent cooling: according to temperature anomaly maps, air temperatures will begin to fall rapidly from September 23–24.

“The map shows a negative temperature anomaly in the Volga–Vyatka region. It is possible that on September 27 a first temporary snow cover could form in some areas,” the forecast says.

Judging by the precipitation map (see photo), precipitation of varying intensity is expected in Kirov Oblast on the night of September 27, locally up to 5 mm in 3 hours, and the color scale indicates a mixed phase — rain with snow. On the second temperature anomaly map it can be seen that by the end of the month a significant part of European Russia will be in a zone of negative anomaly — temperatures will be about 2–4 °C below normal.

Thus, the forecasted cooling coincides with an increased probability of precipitation, which raises the chances of the first snowfall this autumn.
