Oleg Valenchuk: The judo tournament in Kirovo-Chepetsk is a lesson in courage and patriotism

More than 60 young judokas from 10 teams (Perm, Izhevsk, Cheboksary, Slobodskoy, Kirovo-Chepetsk, Kirov) gathered to honor the memory of Captain Pletnev, who died in the spring of 2005 in the line of duty in the Chechen Republic. His feat became a symbol of fearlessness and self-sacrifice. Awarded the Order of Courage (posthumously), Denis Pletnev will forever remain in the memory of Kirov residents as an example of true patriotism and bravery.

The tournament began with a minute of silence in memory of Captain Pletnev.

Deputy of the State Duma and president of the Kirov Region Judo Federation Oleg Valenchuk addressed the participants and guests of the tournament:

      - The judo tournament in Kirovo-Chepetsk is a lesson in courage and patriotism for young people, emphasizing the continuity of generations and respect for the defenders of the Fatherland. I wish all participants great sporting success and hope they become true patriots of their country by following Denis Pletnev’s example.

Oleg Valenchuk also noted that judo is the sport practiced by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. It is judo that cultivates strength of spirit, discipline and perseverance — qualities needed not only in sport but in life.

In addition to its competitive component, the tournament proved to be a good platform for the exchange of experience between coaches and athletes.
