A student from Kirov lost 234,000 rubles after a call claiming to be from the tax office.

In Kirov, a student became the victim of telephone scammers who posed as employees of several government agencies at once. It all began with a call “from the tax service” — the young man was persuaded to give the code from an SMS, supposedly to book an appointment. After that the Kirov resident received calls from “representatives of Gosuslugi, the Central Bank and the police.” They said the provided code had allowed the scammers to take out loans and transfer money “to support Ukraine.” To “protect the funds,” the young man was forced to give detailed information about his accounts and crypto wallet. When the conversation turned to cryptocurrency, the fake officials insisted he transfer all the funds to the details they provided “for verification and return.” The student transferred 234,000 rubles, after which he realized he had been deceived. A criminal case has been opened over the fraud. The police are now identifying the perpetrators.
