Entrepreneurs are accused of illegal logging valued at 34 million rubles.

      The investigation into a criminal case of illegal logging in Yuryansky District, Kirov Region, has been completed. According to investigators, the damage caused to the forest fund exceeded 34.4 million rubles. It was reported that two entrepreneurs took advantage of residents’ right to receive timber free of charge for personal use. They persuaded several people to grant powers of attorney and concluded contracts with the Ministry of Forestry on their behalf. On the basis of these documents the entrepreneurs organized the logging. A total of more than 2,500 cubic meters of timber of various species was illegally harvested. It was taken to a sawmill and sold. As part of the investigation, a seizure was imposed on the defendants’ assets totaling more than 28.5 million rubles. The case materials were recently sent to the Yuryansky District Court. The men face up to seven years in prison.
