In Kirov, a recidivist thief stole someone else's bank card and went "shopping".
On the night of December 25–26, 2023, a 24-year-old man from Kirov found a woman’s bank card. He decided to use the money on it for his own purposes: the young man paid for goods, including groceries, at one of the city’s food stores. As a result, he caused the victim material damage in the amount of more than 5,800 rubles. It is worth noting that the man had previously been convicted four times for theft.
A criminal case was initiated against the offender. He was again found guilty under clause “g” of Part 3 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft from a bank account). The court agreed with the prosecutor and, taking into account his prior convictions, sentenced the man to 4 months and 22 days of imprisonment to be served in a general-regime penal colony and imposed a fine of 10,000 rubles. Upon pronouncement of the sentence, the defendant was also ordered to pay the victim compensation for material damage.
The man tried to appeal the sentence to the appellate court, claiming the punishment was too severe, but by decision of the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Kirov Regional Court the conviction was left in force.
