A Kirov resident trusted a fraudster and lost more than two million rubles.

A 35-year-old man from Kirov sought help from the police. He had begun communicating on Telegram with a stranger who promised to help him trade cryptocurrency. Following the stranger’s instructions, the man registered on an exchange website and then, following dictated instructions, topped up his online account to buy and sell assets, sending money to the account details he was given. When the Kirov resident tried to withdraw his earnings, the system returned an error. In a phone call with the alleged support service of the crypto exchange, it emerged that he would have to pay a commission of 177,000 rubles to withdraw the funds. That was when the victim realized he was being scammed. In total he lost 2,393,000 rubles. A criminal case has been opened and an investigation is underway. Citizens are reminded not to get involved in dubious money-making schemes offered by strangers online. Income from cryptocurrency transactions can be earned by specialists in this field, but not by those who entrust their funds to little-known online contacts.
