Mauri spotted "khren" on the Mounds of Glory.
Former Deputy Chairman of the Government of Kirov Oblast Andrey Mauri sharply criticized the condition of the area around the "Palace of Creativity – Memorial" on his Telegram channel.
Mauri noted that the memorial zone was supposed to have been put in order by instruction of the President of Russia. However, in his words, today it is desolate, and on the Mounds of Glory grows… horseradish.
"The team of the current regional leader has been first here too — on the Mounds of Glory, in the anniversary year, what is growing is by no means anniversary... horseradish!!! How much must one disrespect the memory of our heroes — fellow countrymen, the memory of thousands of Kirov residents who invested their labor and money in the construction of the Palace through a people's construction effort, to allow such barbaric mockery of the memory of the fallen!?" Mauri wrote.
He also drew a parallel with the situation in Ukraine, where, in his words, "everything began with abandoned memorials, forgotten names and 'proper' upbringing on the 'right' examples."
Mauri called what is happening "a Vyatka-style shock" and emphasized that such an attitude toward memorial sites is unacceptable.
