A Kirov derby took place in the Russian Cup: Fankom snatched victory in a penalty shootout.
There were minor changes to Dinamo’s starting lineup: Denis Yeremeev, who recently turned 20, took the goal. Fankom was bolstered with professional footballers for this and previous matches: Vadim Frolkin from Kazan’s Sokol and Evgeny Pleshko from FC Volna of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The squad was also refreshed with players from the media football league: Daniil Shabalin from Roma, Nikita Kirsanov and Andrey Spirin from Match TV were included in the matchday roster.
From the opening minutes the hosts took the initiative. The team of professionals kept possession and completed plays in every situation. Until about the 20th minute the team from the Second League had no shots. Fankom responded with attacks: in the 13th minute Shabalin fired at Dinamo’s goal but failed to score. In the 17th minute Fankom’s players seized the initiative and tried to create a chance at the opponent’s goal. The first goal came in the 36th minute. Dmitry Usov — Dinamo’s striker — sent the ball into the far corner, opening the scoring. The amateurs then prepared a reply: Ivashchev — a Fankom player — ran down the flank and crossed to his team’s forward, who steered the ball into Yeremeev’s net. The first half ended 1–1.
In the second half it was clear that Viktor Bulatov’s team began to rush and get nervous. Both goals were “locked” in the second half; there was one moment involving Denis Yeremeev when he saved a shot from Dudkin — Fankom’s forward. It was evident the players were tired and Dinamo lacked accuracy in their passing and shooting. After the 80th minute the intensity on the field increased: both teams tried to play without fouls but with active challenges. Toward the end of the second half the tempo doubled; the Second League A team wanted to finish the match in regulation time rather than take it to penalties, but after 5 minutes of added time the score remained unchanged and the teams went to a penalty shootout.
Dmitry Usov scored the first penalty, then a Fankom player equalized in the shootout. Next up Daniil Nagovitsyn struck powerfully and beat the amateurs’ keeper. The third attempt for Dinamo was also converted by Kamaev. Fankom equalized again when Evgeny Pleshko confidently hit the top corner. The teams’ fourth penalties were scored just as confidently. Nikolay Bochko could have ended the shootout by scoring with a powerful shot into the opposite corner, but the Third Division team equalized again: 5–5. It went on until 10–10, after which a battle of the goalkeepers began. Daniil Nagovitsyn missed the target and Fankom scored the 13th penalty, advancing to the third round of the Fonbet Cup.
After the final goal the entire Fankom coaching staff and team ran onto the pitch to celebrate. Note that FC Fankom will play Dzerzhinsk’s Khimik in the third round of the regional path.
