Sokolov wanted to control the landfill.

In the village of Pronkintsy in the Kirovo-Chepetsky District access to an old landfill will be closed. The move followed complaints from local residents and a report by the All-Russia People’s Front that construction waste had begun to be brought again to the inactive site. According to the regional Ministry of Environmental Protection, the landfill had been in operation since 1977 and was closed in 2018. However, vehicles have recently been arriving there and unloading waste. At the instruction of Governor Alexander Sokolov, specialists from the ministry of ecology went to the site and recorded violations. The ministry said that an administrative investigation has been opened and those responsible are being identified. “According to an order of the regional government, the landfill is subject to reclamation; design and cost-estimate documentation will be prepared for this,” the ministry said. In the near future the district administration will take measures to restrict access to the area. The authorities reminded that fines are provided for violations of environmental requirements: for citizens — from 2,000 to 3,000 rubles; for officials — from 10,000 to 30,000 rubles; for organizations — from 100,000 to 250,000 rubles. The situation is under the personal oversight of the governor, the regional ministry of ecology and supervisory bodies.
