The Bank of Russia issued a commemorative coin to mark the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.

      The coin is made of non-precious metals and has a combined form consisting of a central disc and an outer ring with a diameter of 28 mm. The obverse features branches of laurel and oak and the numeral "50" with a security element that changes depending on the viewing angle, the press service of the Bank of Russia reports. The reverse depicts a fragment of the Saur-Mogila memorial complex, surrounded by the inscriptions "Year of the Defender of the Fatherland" and "Saur-Mogila." Saur-Mogila is a burial mound nearly 278 meters high in the Donetsk People's Republic. During the Great Patriotic War it had important strategic significance and was liberated from German forces in August 1943 after bloody battles. The mintage of the new coin totaled 1 million pieces. It is legal tender and must be accepted at face value within the territory of Russia.
