Interest in postage stamps remains high in the Kirov region. In 2024 alone, residents and organizations of the region purchased more than 9.6 million stamps at the post office for mailing. More than 28,000 artistic stamps were added to philatelic collections.
The history of the postage stamp spans almost two centuries. It first appeared in London in 1840 and was called the "Penny Black." In Russia, the first stamp was issued in December 1857, depicting the coat of arms of the Postal Department.
Today at the post office you can buy both standard mass‑issue stamps and artistic stamps featuring images of animals, plants, architectural landmarks and works of art. Last year, stamps featuring the Dymkovo toy, Kirov's anniversary and New Year scenes were particularly popular.
