Yaransk will mark the 10th anniversary of the discovery of the relics of Venerable Matfey of Yaransk.

      As reported by the Yaransk Diocese, on August 21 at 5:00 p.m. an all-night vigil with an akathist at the saint's relics will begin in the cathedral. The next day, August 22, at 7:30 a.m. there will be a prayer service with an akathist and confession, and at 9:00 a.m. — the Divine Liturgy.

      Bishop Paisius of Yaransk and Luz recalled that for decades Venerable Matfei rested in the Yaransk cemetery. Believers came to his grave even in the difficult years of the 20th century, seeking support and intercession. According to the bishop, an attempt was made to destroy the saint's remains by covering them with quicklime, but this did not succeed. "The Lord cannot be mocked. Nor can His ascetics be mocked. Today we pray to Venerable Matfei before his relics, each for his own intentions. But we are all united by faith in God and in the help of His holy servant," the bishop emphasized.
