Third year without water: residents of Syryan forced to "wither away" in a "desert"

      Because of a man-made drought in the village of Syryany, some 40 kilometers from Belaya Kholunitsa, the residents of more than fifty houses are suffering: for the third year running, for weeks at a time—from May through September—what bursts from their taps, instead of even a feeble trickle of moisture, is air lost in the pipes, gushing out, wheezing and whining, while their meters register “demonstration” cubic meters of the water guaranteed by law.
