On August 9, Kirov brightly celebrated Physical Culture Day.

Nearly 5,500 participants in the festive procession and mass warm-up demonstrated an incredible surge of energy and sporting spirit. Forty-five sports federations took part in the celebration, among them the Kirov Region Judo Federation stood out. The sound of the hundreds of medals adorning Kirov’s judokas became a true symbol of the event, reflecting the significant achievements of the sport in the region. Notably, many participants and guests approached to have their photo taken with the Vyatka judokas. Emin Guseynov from Slobodskoy impressed with awards from all-Russian competitions and from the Eurasia Cup. And young athlete Demid Bulatov — the great-grandson of our celebrated compatriot Grigory Bulatov, who 85 years ago was the first to raise the Victory Banner over the ruined Reichstag — is only taking his first steps in a competitive career. But family perseverance and the will to win have already repeatedly brought him to the top step of the podium at Kirov Region competitions.

The Kirov Region Judo Federation, headed by State Duma deputy Oleg Valenchuk, has earned the highest recognition at the federal level as well, becoming a laureate of the “Judo Federation of Russia — 2024” competition. This prestigious award is the result of many years of focused work by a cohesive team.

The successes of Kirov judo are not only victories at major competitions. Special mention should be made of the federation’s significant contribution to the development of adaptive judo. For more than 20 years the Kirov Region Judo Federation has actively involved people with disabilities in training, creating an accessible sporting environment for them and helping to unlock their potential. Honored Coach of Russia Igor Glubokovsky from Sovetsk has, since 2003 and with the support of Oleg Valenchuk, led the development of adaptive judo, building a strong material and technical base and a team of highly qualified coaches. The results are impressive: his trainees achieve victories at all-Russian and international competitions, proving that overcoming barriers is possible through sport.

“The Physical Culture Day in Kirov once again demonstrated that hard work, team cohesion and belief in one’s abilities can bring about amazing results,” Oleg Valenchuk noted. “The successes of the Vyatka judokas are not only sporting victories, but an inspiring example for everyone who strives to achieve their goals regardless of physical abilities. This is a story of a true triumph of the human spirit and the will to win.”
