In Kirov Oblast, a village has been left without a bridge and access to medical care.
Last week the crossing collapsed while an overloaded KAMAZ truck laden with crushed stone was driving over it. The load was being transported for road repairs under the Local Initiatives Support Project, but it never reached its destination. The vehicle was recovered on August 8, and the approach to the bridge was cordoned off with barrier tape. There is a huge hole in the decking.
Repairs to the bridge are only planned for 2026; authorities are currently pursuing claims against the truck’s owner. But, according to local residents, they cannot wait two years: in the event of an emergency the rescue services simply will not be able to get there.
“We urgently need to find budgetary funds and carry out the repairs, and only afterwards recover the money spent from the truck’s owner,” said Valeriya Cheremisinova, head of the regional office of the People’s Front. The ONF has sent an appeal to the prosecutor’s office.
