The first court session regarding the terrorist attack at Crocus took place on August 4th.
The trial for the bombing at the Crocus City Hall concert venue, which occurred on March 22, 2024, has begun in Moscow. The victims total 149 people, with around 70 dying due to a fire that broke out in the concert hall. The session is being held at the Moscow City Court building, where a panel of three judges from the Second Western District Military Court has started hearings. Nineteen defendants are in the dock, 13 of whom are charged with involvement in the attack itself, while the others are accused of assisting terrorist activities, according to Kommersant. The session started in an open format but is proceeding behind closed doors because of the presence of classified information in the materials. More than 100 journalists attended the first hearing. Victims' attorneys announced their intention to pursue the severest but fair punishment for the accused. The court refused to involve a jury and also rejected the defense's request to return the case for further investigation. Over 2,400 victims are recognized in the case, including major telecommunications operators. The total amount of civil claims is nearly 66 million rubles.
