Russians will have the right to block spam emails starting August 1.
Starting August 1, 2025, a law will come into force in Russia allowing citizens to refuse receiving mass mailings. It will be sufficient to use the personal account or mobile application of the communication operator, reports Gazeta.ru.
As State Duma deputy Anton Nemkin explained, the new mechanism is aimed at reducing the number of unwanted messages, including advertising and potentially dangerous ones. According to him, the law could reduce spam volume by at least half and improve digital security.
The deputy expressed particular concern about messages that could be sent by scammers: they often send fake offers, links to malicious sites, or promise non-existent compensation.
In the future, users will have more control over their digital communication channels — they will be able to decide for themselves who to receive messages from and who not to.
