In Kirov, a squirrel and a rat attacked the owners.
The Rosselkhoznadzor administration for the Kirov Region, Udmurtia, and Perm Krai issued warnings to pet owners who failed to comply with mandatory requirements after bites. The incidents occurred in Kirov on May 31 and June 3, 2025. In both cases, the bitten individuals were their own pets—an Degu squirrel and a decorative rat. According to the state veterinary service, the animals were not taken to a veterinarian within 12 hours of the incidents. Additionally, the owners did not ensure quarantine—10 days of observation under specialist supervision, as required by law. Moreover, the pets were not vaccinated against rabies. The Rosselkhoznadzor emphasized that such actions pose a threat to the lives and health of citizens and violate Veterinary Rules aimed at rabies prevention and control.
