The authorities of Kirov will provide housing only for 5 wheelchair users out of 30.

We have long written about the issues faced by wheelchair users in Kirov. The essence is that these people often live in apartments that do not meet their needs. Many simply cannot access the bathroom in their wheelchair, let alone go outside for a walk. Legally, authorities are required to provide suitable housing for such individuals.

To obtain housing, one must achieve a court decision to that effect. However, this is no guarantee of success. Very often, officials respond that they simply do not have suitable housing: it is unavailable on the market, nor in the municipal fund.

At the end of last year, a portion of wheelchair users with court orders for resettlement were moved into nine apartments in a new building at Dorofoeva, 16, constructed by Grazhdanremstroy. This house was mainly built for those displaced from emergency housing, but the developer managed to create a few apartments for disabled individuals.

However, as reported today at the committee meeting of the Duma, these measures were not enough — there are still 30 disabled people in Kirov who need housing, and their number could increase at any time due to new court decisions.

The administration continues to promise the construction of another building — three stories high, on Korolenko, similar to the Dorofoeva building, with all necessary amenities. However, out of 15 apartments, only five will be allocated to disabled individuals. It is unclear where the remaining 25+ people will be accommodated.

For now, according to the head of the administration, Vyacheslav Simakov, a project for building a new house is underway. All work is planned to be completed by 2026.
