
The Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Russia, Irina Podnosova, has died.
Irina Podnosova, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, died on July 22, 2025, in Moscow at the age of 71, according to the court's press service.
Podnosova assumed the chairmanship of the Supreme Court on April 17, 2024, following the death of Vyacheslav Lebedev, who held the position since 1991. Prior to that, she held key positions within the judicial system for many years: she was deputy chairman for economic disputes, and until 2020, she was the chairwoman of the Leningrad Regional Court and the Second Court of Appeal.
Irina Podnosova graduated from the Law Faculty of Leningrad State University named after Zhdanov in 1975, where she studied alongside Vladimir Putin. She began her judicial career in 1990 at the Luga City Court, gradually advancing her career to the highest judicial post.
