Kirov residents are encouraged to vote for the longstanding vine participating in the All-Russian competition.

The Elm from the Slobodskoy District continues to compete for the title of "Russian Tree of the Year 2025." Residents of the region are invited to support this unique tree with their vote.

According to the regional government, the age of the "Symbol of Time" is estimated at 230 years, and its height is 11 meters. It grows next to a prayer cross erected in memory of the villages of Bardashi, Chauzovy, and Kološiny, which once existed. Historically, residents of Nikulitsky parish planted elms at the entrance to each village, believing that the tree protected against misfortunes and evil spirits. The Suncovsky elm is the only survivor of those planted by ancestors, and today it has become a symbol of the vanished settlements.

The tree also has a military significance — in 1941, villagers bid farewell to their comrades heading to the front under its branches. Men said goodbye to their loved ones there, often taking a leaf from the elm for good luck on their journey.

It is worth noting that there are only half a month left until the end of the competition, which runs until August 1. Currently, the tree from the Kirov region has only 692 votes. In the lead at the moment is the Shumerlinsky oak from the Chuvash Republic, with 10,509 votes.
