According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Kirov Region, the day before, an unknown man called the pensioner's landline, pretending to be an employee of a company servicing landline phones. He claimed that the pensioner’s contract was about to expire and persuaded him to provide his passport details and mobile phone number.

Later, another call followed — this time from a woman who claimed to be an FSB officer. She stated that, based on the pensioner’s passport data, criminals had taken out a loan and were now attempting to transfer funds to Ukraine. To avoid criminal liability, the man was advised to hand over all his savings and valuables for "declaration."

Trusting the scammers, the Kirov resident handed over 600,000 rubles and collectible coins valued at 680,000 rubles to a courier in the lobby of his apartment building. Afterward, contact with the “employees” was lost.

As a result of operational-investigative measures, police identified the person involved in the crime — a 24-year-old resident of Tatarstan. He may also be involved in a series of similar crimes in Tatarstan.
