In the Kirov region, more than 2.6 thousand people were bitten by ticks in a week.
The tick activity season continues in the Kirov region. According to the Department of Rospotrebnadzor, 2,661 people, 451 of them children, have contacted medical organizations in the region over the past week regarding tick bites.
Experts have recorded 5 laboratory-confirmed cases of tick-borne viral encephalitis, including one case in a child. 12 cases of borreliosis have also been registered, one of the cases is a minor.
The greatest tick activity traditionally occurs in May and June. At this time, it is especially important to observe personal preventive measures, the Rospotrebnadzor emphasizes.
To reduce the risks, acaricide treatments of territories are continuing, including in places of mass stay of people and suburban children's camps. Almost 2.4 thousand hectares have been cultivated in a week.
Laboratory studies of ticks taken from humans show a high level of infection: 52.6% are infected with the causative agent of borreliosis, 1.3% with the tick—borne encephalitis virus. Cases of infection with ehrlichiosis (7.5%) and anaplasmosis (0.5%) were also detected.
More than half of the bitten residents of Kirov suffered outside the city. They most often sought help after trips to Kirovo-Chepetsky, Orichevsky, Slobodskoy and Yuryansky districts.
Rospotrebnadzor reminds: being in nature, it is necessary to protect the skin with clothing, use acaricidal preparations and regularly examine yourself and your loved ones for ticks — every 15-20 minutes. After returning home, such examinations are mandatory.
