A six-centimeter cyst in the knee was found in a resident of Kirovo-Chepetsk.
At the Trauma Center, doctors performed surgery to remove a large Baker's cyst from a 56-year-old woman. The neoplasm in the popliteal region has reached six centimeters in diameter.
The patient noticed a swelling behind her knee for several years, but postponed going to the doctors. Over time, the cyst increased in size, and it became clear that surgery was necessary. Surgeons at the day hospital successfully performed cyst excision, and the woman was able to go home on the same day.
Baker's cyst is an accumulation of fluid in the popliteal fossa that can develop asymptomatically. It often appears on the background of injuries, metabolic disorders, or joint diseases. If the cyst becomes large or causes pain, it is surgically removed.
Such operations are performed regularly at the Traumatology Center. This year, 14 interventions have already been performed.
