The central Bank will issue new coins
The Central Bank plans to issue commemorative silver coins dedicated to the Russian football clubs Zenit (St. Petersburg) and Lokomotiv (Moscow) this year. In 2026, commemorative silver coins will be dedicated to two more Russian football clubs, CSKA Moscow and Spartak Moscow.
According to the regulator's website, the first coins of the Russian Sport series were released in 2023 with the emblems of sports societies. In the same series, it is planned to issue coins dedicated to significant events and outstanding athletes, as well as popular sports and Russian sports clubs.
The Central Bank of the Russian Federation reported that the Bank accepts proposals to issue commemorative coins in the "Russian Sport" series, taking into account the opinion and recommendations of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation. To get on the coin, there are additional criteria for sports clubs: the club must be over 100 years old, represent a mass sport, have high results and participate in leading national competitions.
