Vyacheslav Tsaryuk proposed to transfer the Kirov region to its own time zone

The issue of transferring the Kirov region to a different time zone has again become the subject of public discussion. This time, the initiative was taken by Vyacheslav Tsaryuk, deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the region. During the debate, he stated the need to set its own time for the region — Moscow Time +1, stressing that such a transition is "more realistic" than radical options, and has long been discussed in society.

"In 1991, the Kirov region was switched to Moscow time without referendums and public discussions," the parliamentarian recalled. — Then there was winter and summer time, which was abolished only in 2011. Today, the difference between the actual solar time and Moscow time is about two hours. We suggest adding at least one hour."

According to Vyacheslav Tsaryuk, a similar system operates, for example, in Udmurtia, where residents live according to Moscow time+1. He noted that the opponents' arguments related to "separation from Moscow" are untenable — business and transport have long been adapted to different time zones. Tsaryuk also gave examples of Saratov, Samara and Ulyanovsk regions, which live in a different time, but effectively interact with the federal center.

"This issue should not be decided by a narrow circle of people. We conducted surveys on social networks, and according to data for 2021-2023, the number of supporters of time transfer is steadily growing," he said. "Especially in the districts of the region, but also in Kirov itself, the number of "for" increased by about 10%."

The idea of time transfer has been discussed in the Kirov region for several years. Deputies, doctors and residents of the region have repeatedly spoken on this topic. Recall that in October 2024, Vyacheslav raised this issue again, as in December 2023.

Opponents of the initiative, including Roman Beresnev, chairman of the Legislative Assembly, consider the transition impractical. So, in 2023, he stated that a different time zone would be more convenient for rural residents, but not for urban residents. He also added that one of the regions decided to change the time zone, after which there was a movement demanding that everything be returned.

Nevertheless, the topic remains relevant. The issue of switching to the Moscow time zone +1, according to Tsaryuk, should be brought up for wide public discussion, since it affects the interests of all residents of the region.
