Kirov received tangerines from Egypt with a pest
On May 14, a shipment of Egyptian tangerines weighing more than two tons arrived at the wholesale base in Kirov. Specialists from the Rosselkhoznadzor and the Kirov branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIIKR" found California scab in the fruits, a quarantine pest dangerous to plants.
Despite the presence of the pest in a viable form, the batch was allowed to be sold. Experts explain this by the fact that the main way of spreading scab is planting material, and infected fruits do not pose a serious threat. Locals are advised to wash the fruit thoroughly with warm water before eating to avoid possible contact with pests.
