Experts: Russians have a growing interest in esotericism and classics

      Experts conducted a survey, the results of which showed that more than a third of Russians surveyed read books daily, the same number — once a week, mostly in the evenings. Fantasy, detective stories, and science fiction are the most popular genres. At the same time, interest in esotericism and classical literature is growing rapidly.

      According to a survey of users of the electronic and audiobook service, as well as the online payment service, 34% of respondents read any books. Another 18% prefer fiction, 8% read professional literature necessary for work and study, and 6% read nonfiction or historical literature.

      More than half of the Russians surveyed prefer paper books (53%), another 30% prefer e-books, and 12% mostly listen to audiobooks. The remaining ones combine different formats in equal proportions.

      One third of the respondents (33%) reads or listens to books every day, and the same number reads or listens to books several times a week. The majority (60%) pay attention to books in the evenings. 38% of respondents spend about an hour of their time reading, while another 28% spend about two hours reading. Almost half of the respondents (49%) prefer to set aside time for reading. The rest try to integrate reading into their daily lives: they read on the road (23%), during household chores (14%), during breaks at work and school (11%), while playing sports (3%).

      According to the electronic and audiobook service, esotericism showed the greatest increase in reader interest: demand increased by 50%. It is followed by classical literature.: 24% more people became interested in her. Romance novels increased in popularity by 18%. Detective stories (+15%), fantasy and prose (+10% each genre) are also in constant demand. Children's literature and psychology showed moderate growth (6% and 3%, respectively), while fiction and business literature remained unchanged.
