On Wednesday, the Vatican will begin choosing a new Pope.

According to Izvestia, tomorrow, on May 7, a conclave will gather in the Sistine Chapel, which will begin the election of a new Pope. The cardinals, who will have to make a choice, arrived in Rome yesterday, May 5.

It is specified that 135 cardinals under the age of 80 from around the world can take part in the conclave. The Sistine Chapel, where the ceremony will take place, has already been closed to visitors to prepare for the conclave. In particular, it is necessary to install a chimney in which the ballots will be burned.

As it became known today, on May 6, a ceremony was held in the Vatican to annul two symbols of the Pope's authority — the lead seal and the so-called Ring of the Fisherman. "During this last general congregation before the conclave, the Fisherman's Ring and the lead seal of Pope Francis were destroyed, in accordance with canonical norms," the newspaper reports with reference to the official website of the Holy See.

Pope Francis passed away on April 21 this year. The pontiff was 88 years old. He became Pope in 2013 and became the first pope from the new world in history — Francis was born in Argentina. The funeral of Pope Francis was held in the Vatican on April 26.
