
The first chairman of the Olimpia Sports Club has passed away
Vasily Egorovich Ochnev, the first chairman of the Olimpiya Sports Club, Master of Sports of the USSR in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling and Sambo, died at the age of 88, the Olimpiya Hockey Club reported in the public.
From 1962 to 1964, Vasily Egorovich was chairman of the KFK DSO "Trud", from 1964 to 1974 — Chairman of the Olympic Sports Complex. These years marked the peak of sports development in Kirovo-Chepetsk: the first sports club in the Kirov region appeared, the Olympia sports school was opened, modern sports facilities were built, including an artificial ice rink and the Perekop biathlon complex.
During the same period, the Olimpia hockey team won the gold of the USSR championship among class B clubs, which gave a powerful impetus to the development of hockey in Kirovo-Chepetsk. At the same time, the star of the legendary hockey player Alexander Maltsev lit up.
From 1974 to 1996, Vasily Egorovich headed the regional committee for physical education and sports, where he also proved himself to be a talented organizer and wise leader.
HC Olimpia expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Vasily Ochnev. As noted in the Olympia, "the memory of this outstanding man will forever remain in our hearts."
