Construction of a tunnel under the Trans-Siberian Railway has started in Kirov

      A new stage of large—scale construction has started in the Kirov region - a tunnel will be built under the Trans-Siberian Railway in the Novovyatsky district of the city. This was announced by Governor Alexander Sokolov at an operational meeting with the regional government. According to him, the project became possible thanks to the support of the President of Russia and represents an engineering challenge related to the calculation of groundwater, soil stability and permissible loads.

      "This is the most important construction site that several generations of the region's residents have been waiting for. Today we are starting to implement it," Sokolov stressed.

      According to Alexey Zherdev, the first deputy chairman of the regional government, serious preparations have been made for the start of work. Road signs, information boards, and construction site fences have already been installed. The dismantling of the railway crossing, garages and residential buildings falling into the development area has begun. It is also planned to transfer engineering networks and install safety packages during breaks between train movements.

      At the time of construction, the movement of vehicles is organized through the Southern bypass of Kirov. Inter-municipal and inter-regional bus routes have been redirected, and city buses are operating with transfers. New stops and a pedestrian crossing have been equipped near the crossing, which meets all safety requirements, including for people with limited mobility, the press service of the Government of the Kirov region reports.

      Traffic control at the first stages will be provided by traffic police officers. According to Vyacheslav Simakov, the head of the city administration, the traffic pattern will be adjusted as necessary. A decision has already been made to increase the number of buses during rush hours in the 41st microdistrict.

      "We understand that temporary inconveniences are inevitable,— said Alexey Zherdev. — But we are sure that the result will meet expectations. We will continue to respond promptly to the situation and adjust the transport scheme as needed."
