The Lyrida starfall will take place in the sky over Kirov

Kirov residents will be able to observe one of the most spectacular astronomical phenomena — the Lyrida meteor shower. Its peak activity will be on the night of April 22-23. You don't even need a telescope to do this — the main thing is to choose a dark place outside the city.

According to Alexey Syktyvkar, founder of the Amateur Astronomy in Kirov community, the Lyrids are one of the most famous spring stargazing events. On this night, up to 20 meteors per hour can be seen in the sky. The best conditions for observation are in the city, 20-30 kilometers from Kirov, where there is no urban illumination.

"With the naked eye, you can observe not only meteor showers, but also eclipses, the northern lights, the Milky Way and constellations. The main thing is to know where to look and at what time," the amateur astronomer notes.

The next starfall, the Eta Aquariids meteor shower— is expected from May 6-7, and in summer and autumn the sky will present many more interesting phenomena: silvery clouds, August Perseids, the convergence of Venus and Jupiter, as well as a total lunar eclipse.
