In 2024, mobile operators increased their profits and the number of subscribers

      The Russian telecommunications market has shown steady growth by the end of 2024. The total revenue of telecom operators amounted to more than 2.1 trillion rubles, an increase of 7.8% compared to 2023.

      Mobile communication services remain the main driver of growth, bringing operators 976 billion rubles (+8.9%). The fixed Internet segment also made a significant contribution, with revenues growing by 11% to RUB 279 billion.

      Income growth is related to several factors:

      the active growth of Internet traffic

      , the expansion of package tariffs

      , the promotion of additional options and media services

      , and the expansion of operators beyond traditional communication services.

      By the end of 2024, there

      were 270 million active SIM cards in Russia, an increase of 2.5% year-on—year

      , of which 188 million were mobile Internet users (+6.5%)

      and 39 million were active fixed broadband subscribers, which is 4.7% more than a year earlier.

      Experts attribute the growth in the number of mobile subscribers, among other things, to the active development of virtual banking operators (MVNOs), and the increase in fixed—line Internet users to the expansion of networks to suburbs and new buildings with modern infrastructure.

      As for Internet traffic, its volume in Russian networks increased by 24.4% last year, from 151,521 to 188,530 petabytes. The volume of mobile Internet traffic was +13.9% year—on-year, and the volume of fixed Internet traffic was +28.1% year-on-year. One of the main trends of the year was the explosive growth in popularity of Russian video services, which significantly affected traffic volumes and data consumption.
