Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin sent a bill to the relevant Defense Committee on the establishment of August 9 as the Day of Military Glory of Russia. According to Volodin, the establishment of the day of military glory on August 9 is a tribute to all those who gave their lives for the liberation of Russia and the whole world from fascism. He also added that those who rewrite history for the sake of political interests, forgetting the cost of Victory and the peaceful life of children, have no future.
The explanatory note states that the result of the Leningrad Battle was not only the complete removal of threats to Leningrad, but also the liberation of the Leningrad, Pskov, Novgorod regions and Karelia, as well as the elimination of the "Finnish blockade link."
